After Leicester drew 1-1 at Manchester United last weekend in the Premier League, Claudio Ranieri made an amazing announcement in his post match interview.

Ranieri admitted that he wouldn’t be watching Chelsea’s match with Spurs, as he would be travelling on a plane back from Italy.

Claudio revealed that Monday was his mum’s 96th birthday, so he was flying back to take her out for lunch.

Following Leicester’s EPL success, the Italian press have now spoken to Renata Ranieri about her son’s achievements.
La Repubblica yesterday published an interview with the Tinkerman’s mum, in which she’s talked about her son’s eating habits, Leicester’s success and Ranieri’s troubles at AS Roma:

“My son needs to stay fit, so he almost never opts for a ‘primo’ (the plate of pasta that traditionally kicks off an Italian meal). Instead he has green beans or a salad.

“All the newspapers [in Italy] are calling him the King of England, just imagine that. Claudio was so happy when I spoke to him on the phone. Now we can all relax a bit.

“He told me he had found a good bunch of players… but that he certainly wasn’t training a great team. I am sorry about how it finished for him at Roma: we’ve always been a big Roma-supporting family.

“He took over (at Roma) when the season had already started. He didn’t earn the respect of his own city… and I’m disappointed it finished like that for him. But now, he’s the king of England and he’s getting compliments from all around the world.”
