Rayon’s coach boasts as CAF picks this weekend for Rivers United tie
Rayon Sports Coach, Djuma Masudi, who has kicked off preparations for their CAF Confederation Cup tie against Rivers United at Kigali Nyamirambo, believes his team can upset the Nigerian team in Port Harcourt, reports soka25east.com.
Masudi, who is eyeing a win away from home, has said that they have began preparing early ahead of the trip to try and keep in shape and because of the enormity of the task at hard.
“The spirit is high in the team,” the former Rayon player revealed. “The opponent will be tough but early preparations could do the trick,” Masudi added. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) rescheduled the match due to the 23rd Commemoration the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The current Rwandan Premier League table leaders were supposed to play the first leg away in Port Harcourt, Nigeria over the weekend before hosting the return leg on the weekend of April 13-15, at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
However, the Rwandan FA-FERWAFA officially requested CAF to reschedule the matches because of the Genocide commemoration week that started on Friday April 7 to April 14th. In return, CAF considered this request inevitable and decided the two matches to be played between April 15th and April 22nd.
Rayon progressed to the play off stage after their first round, second leg match fixture against Mali’s Onze Createurs was cancelled by CAF following the suspension of the Malian Football Association by FIFA.
Rivers United on the other hand were dumped out of the CAF Champions League by El-Merreikh of Sudan, who pulled off one of the greatest comeback to progress on 4-3 aggregate.
