Rigondeaux beats James to retain WBA title

Guillermo Rigondeaux retained his WBA “super” super bantamweight belt when James “Jazza” Dickens retired at the end of the second round with a broken jaw, at the Ice Arena Wales in Cardiff on Saturday night.

After a first round that produced very little action the Miami-based Cuban caught Dickens from Liverpool with a looping southpaw left that shattered his jaw.

Dickens finished the round but his corner pulled him out before the bell for the third round.
Rigondeaux improved his record to 17-0; 11 and Dickens saw his record drop to 22-2; 7.

Terry Flanagan from England beat South Africa’s former two-time IBF junior lightweight champion Mzonke Fana by wide margins to retain his WBO lightweight belt.
The scores were 120-106 on all three judges scorecards.

The southpaw Flanagan who has a record of 31-0; 12 dropped Fana 38-10; 16 in rounds four and 12.

Flanagan suffered a bad cut under his right eye and dominated throughout but was frustrated by the awkward style and movement of the 42-year-old Fana.

Liam Williams 15-0-1; 10 retained his British and Commonwealth super welterweight title when he stopped Gary Corcoran 15-1; 6 in the eleventh round. Time 2:11.

Miguel Berchelt 29-1; 26 retained his WBO interim featherweight belt when he stopped the No 2 rated Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo 61-3; 41 in the fourth round at the Polideportivo Soraya Jimenez in Los Reyes La Paz, Mexico, on Saturday night.
