Dodo Mayana Soccer Thon, a football idea developed by former Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, was unveiled yesterday by the football icon following the approval by the Lagos State government for its commencement.

The project, which has been held in Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Benue, Enugu, Abuja, Kaduna and Kebbi, according to Rufai, is a football talents hunt created to provide a platform for youths to be discovered, motivated, developed, rewarded and celebrated.

Speaking on the project, Rufai said, “the talent hunt is my way of giving back to the society just as I too was discovered and nurtured into stardom. The search is for youths between the ages of 16 and 21 with football talents from all the nooks and crannies of the country.

“Before its approval by the Lagos State governor, I had written and followed up all the letters that I wrote to the stakeholders that matter in the state. Here the players discovered during the clinic will be picked for a tournament where they will be screened in order to get the best 15 players from each state.

“All the states will then be made to come to Lagos for another finale where club scouts from Europe will be on ground to assess them.”

He added, “I have assurances from experts that will be in Nigeria during the grand finale to select the best players based on their taste.”

Also speaking on the project, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) First Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi said Rufai’s idea of giving back to the society deserved commendation.
