Head coach of the national rugby team, Fabian Juries, has commended the Nigeria Ruby Federation (NRFF) for re-appointing him to take charge of the team, assuring that the country will qualify for the 2015 All Africa Games and the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Speaking after the Black Stallion’s training session last weekend at the main bowl of the National Stadium, Lagos, the South African rugby legend said he was delighted to be back in Nigeria to work with the players as they prepare for the one-day tournament in Togo, which also serves as the 2016 pre-Olympics qualifiers.

He noted that the selection process for the qualifiers would be tough, as every player invited to the team must work hard to earn a place in the rugby team.

Juries drilled the invited players in training to evaluate their level of fitness and said afterwards, “we did a bit of fitness just to evaluate their level of fitness, some were ok while some are lagging, so we still need to work on that.”

Juries said knowing a few of the players has given him the confidence to get the best out of the team, adding, however, that some of them might be replaced because some of them have not performed to expectation.

The players currently in camp are Azeez Olanrewaju of Nigeria Police RFC, Lagos, Cowrie RFC of Lagos’ Onor Jatto, Isaac Sani,

Ayinla Hafis, Azeez Ladipo and Christian Ogar; Obi Wilson of Barewa RFC, Kano, Ike Onwukanjo of UB RFC, U.S. and Nuhu Ibrahim of Barewa RFC, Kano. Others are Danjuma Mshiela of Richmond RFC, U.K., Temitope Okenla of Gravesend RFC, U.K. and
Alfred Oche of Jos RFC.
