Siasia’s remarks on tie don’t bother us, Egypt coach claims
As EFA wants 20,000 fans for Pharaohs against Eagles
The crucial tie between the Super Eagles and the Pharaohs of Egypt is hitting up with Egypt’s goalkeeping trainer, Ahmed Nagi, claiming that the North African team is undeterred with the statements credited to Coach Samson Siasia.
According to thenigerianvoice.com, Siasia is extremely confident of Nigeria’s victory in the doubleheader. Ahmed Nagi responded by saying, “Siasia’s statements won’t affect the Pharaohs or the coaching staff.”
He added: “We’re used to hearing these kinds of comments from African coaches. The statements indicate that he is worried about the clash. Siasia respects the Egyptian team. He knows our abilities. We also respect the Nigeria team, as they are strong opponents, so, we hope to achieve a positive result.”
Nagi concluded: “The team will hold a camp on the 19th of March, as the squad will be announced after the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup games. Then, we will fly to Nigeria on March 23 in a private jet.”
Meanwhile, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has requested the country’s prime minister to increase the number of fans to 20,000 in the upcoming game against Nigeria, reports kingfut.com.
The Egyptian police have allowed 10,000 people to attend Egypt’s next game against Nigeria in the 2017 Africa Cup of nations qualifiers, but the EFA want to double the numbers to boost their chances.
Egypt will host Nigeria on March 29 in Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria; four days after the Pharaohs face the Super Eagles in Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.
Egypt is drawn in group G with Nigeria, Tanzania and Chad. The top team will qualify to play in the final tournament in Gabon.
The best two runners-up team in the qualifying series will also qualify.
Seven-time winners Egypt currently sits atop of Group G with six points, defeating Tanzania and Chad, while Nigeria is in second place with four points, defeating Chad and drawing with Tanzania away from home.
