Duke Udi’s Sunshine Stars of Akure yesterday recorded their first away win of the season when they travelled to Ilorin to beat ABS in a six-goal thriller. It was one of the unexpected results of the Matchday-28 fixtures of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

It was also a day that the leaders, Plateau United, Wikki Tourists, Enyimba of Aba, Katsina United, and Gombe United won their home games.

Sunshine Stars gave a hint of what was to come in the 46th minute when Sikiru Alimi put his side ahead and Ajibola Otegbeye doubled the lead via a powerful header in the 54th minute.

The homeboys rallied to reduce the tally in the 61st minute through Samuel Oyedeji before Ebola Anaekwe scored from a goal-line scramble to further reduce the scores to 2-3. But the Owena Waves restored their two-goal lead through Ezekiel Thompson to leave the Ilorin crowd wondering what went wrong.

In Jos, Plateau United beat Akwa United 3-0 through goals by Emma James (21st minute penalty), Emeka Umeh (86th Minute) and Kabiru Umar (90th minute) to keep the leaders on top of the log on 51 points.

Enyimba’s Ikechukwu Ibenegbu curled in a beautiful free kick at the death of the first half in their clash against Niger Tornadoes at the UJ Eusene stadium in Calabar.
Two other goals from the boots of Chinonso Okonkwo in the 64th minute and Stanley Dimgba in the 90th minute made the game safe for the Peoples Elephant.

Shooting Stars recorded a rare away draw in Enugu, where they held Rangers to a 1-1 draw at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium. Godwin Aguda put the Flying Antelopes ahead in the 29th minute, but Abu Azeez silenced the Cathedral when he equalized with 10 minutes to go.

Elsewhere, Katsina United defeated Lobi Stars 2-1, Gombe defeated El Kanemi 2-0, Wikki won 2-0 at home against Pillars, while Lobi lost 2-1 to Katsina United.
