President of Sunshine Stars Football Club, Prince John Ola Mafo, has described as malicious reports that the Akure-based team owes its backroom staff seven months salary arrears.

Prince Mafo, who is also the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency, in a statement yesterday said, “We are surprised with this type of reports. We also take exception to it in totality.

“The backroom staff of Sunshine Stars comprises the coaches, team manager and his assistant, physical trainer, kit manager, masseur, and the ball boys. All these set of staff get their salaries at the same time with the players, so we are surprised to hear this type of news.

“We know that this news emanated from some people who are enemies of the team and are determined to bring the team down at all cost. But we are determined to remain focused and resolute in a bid to realise our ambition this soccer season.”

The former Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Youth Development and Sports appealed to all stakeholders to always carry out their duties in professional manner while commending Governor Olusegun Mimiko for his overall support to the team.

“In this situation of economic meltdown across the country and the world at large, Governor Mimiko has always been there to give necessary moral and financial support, so we say thank you to him.”

The ODSFA boss restated his commitment to the welfare of the players, saying, “We have resolved to always make the players very happy by giving top attention to their welfare.”

Sunshine Stars will this weekend confront Heartland of Owerri in a week 13 match of the Nigeria Professional Football League at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
