Goals by Odion Ighalo, John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho, and some confident goalkeeping by Ikechukwu Ezenwa, were all the Super Eagles needed to run out with a comprehensive 4-0 drubbing of Cameroon on Friday at the ‘Nest of Champions’ in Uyo.

The win over the African champions took the Super Eagles points haul to a perfect nine from three matches, seven points ahead of the second-placed Cameroonians. Zambia and Algeria, who have a point apiece from their opening two games, will play each other on Saturday in Lusaka.

Depending on the outcome of Saturday’s encounter, the Super Eagles could well book their ticket to Russia with another victory over the Cameroonians on Monday when both sides meet in Yaounde in the reverse fixture.

And if Gernot Rohr’s side plays with the same level of intensity as they did in Uyo, that might just be the case at the end of another 90 minutes in the Cameroonian capital.

Ighalo set the ball rolling in the 29th minute when he latched onto Mikel’s through pass before getting the better of Fabrice Ondoa in the Indomitable Lions’ goal.

It was then the turn of Mikel to get his name on the score sheet in the 43rd minute from a well-worked corner-kick taken by Moses.

Ten minutes into the second half, it was Moses’ turn to grab a much-deserved goal of his own after a lovely interchange of passes with Moses Simon, before second half substitute, Kelechi Iheanacho, wrapped up the scoring for the Super Eagles with a close range header 14 minutes from the end.
