Organisers of the No Barriers Summer Basketball Camp for girls have revealed that the third edition of the programme will hold at the indoor and outdoor courts of the Abuja National Stadium, Package B, between July 30 and August 6.

The camp, which started in 2014, is for girls within the ages of eight and 18. This edition, according to the organisers, will feature about 150 girls drawn from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs.

Founder of the foundation, Mrs. AdaMark Ogbole, said the No Barriers 3-on-3 basketball competition for women is aimed at teaching the girls sound basketball fundamentals in a conducive environment, where campers will not only compete in the tournament but will also be taught life skills.

She said the camp, sanctioned by the Nigeria Basketball Federation, will teach the rudiments of basketball between the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m., while classes on being a girl will discuss topics like decision-making skills, menstruation, puberty, healthy friendships and sexually transmitted infections.

“All campers will be grouped according to age and ability,” she said, adding, “This tournament uses the same principles and concepts of regulation basketball, except that it is played on half court with only six players on the floor. This form helps and provides for a more recreational type of athlete to stay involved in this great sport.

“Our variation of one male in the team is not only inclusive but brings more excitement to the game and it, therefore, provides fun in a competitive learning environment for all players.”
