Udom-Emmanuel_2THE Akwa Ibom State government, led by Udom Emmanuel, will do everything possible to help Akwa United to their first Federation Cup victory when they meet Lobi Stars in the final of Nigeria’s oldest cup competition, the state’s Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Nse Joseph Edem, has disclosed.

Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Uyo, Edem revealed Governor Emmanuel was mobilising support for the club to ensure its victory at the Federation Cup final, adding, “the State Government through the Ministry of Youths and Sports, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Akwa United bring the Federation Cup to Akwa Ibom State where it belongs.”

Edem commended everyone who contributed to the successes of the club, noting that years of toil and patience is finally yielding results.

He disclosed that Governor Emmanuel’s administration was focused on taking sports to the grassroots to engage the youths effectively, saying, “This administration is not focused on just football; we are looking at other sports. We are reviving school sports via sports centers at the grassroots. The challenge has been lack of partners to take this to the heights it deserves. There is an urgent need for individuals and organisations to partner with Government to develop our sports at grassroots levels.”
