Fresh from their 1-0 away defeat of Djoliba of Mali, Enyimba of Aba believe they are in firm control of the race to the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals.

Enyimba will host Cara of Congo in their last group match of the competition in their refurbished Aba stadium, with only a win sure to take them to the quarterfinals.

A draw may suffice for the team, but it will depend on the outcomae of the other game between Williamsville of Cote d’Ivoire and Djoliba of Mali in Abidjan.

Enyimba, Cara and Williamsville all have six points, but Cara lead the group on goals difference.

The team have been playing all their matches away from home, first in Calabar and later in Port Harcourt.

But with the completion of the work at their home ground, Enyimba have started training on the ground with a view to playing both the NPFL and CAF matches in the arena.

Relishing his team’s performance against Djoliba in Mali, Enyimba Head Coach, Usman Abdallah told a local website, “The result in Mali was as a result sheer determination and the hard work put in by the players before and during the game.”

He revealed that the players went into the match with a positive mindset and a determination not to leave Mali empty handed which was finally rewarded at the death via the penalty spot.

He added, “We got a positive result but there are three teams with a chance of progressing so we have to win at home to ensure we are not relying on other results.

“The whole idea now is to qualify for the quarterfinal, that is our minimum target and with the support of Nigerians and the backing from Enyimba fans at our newly refurbished home I am certain we would get the win against CARA Brazzaville in Aba.”

He praised the outstanding performance of his goalkeeper, Theophilus Afelohai saying, “I had no doubt in the abilities Afelokhai in goal despite having been spoilt for choices in that position as we have three top class goalkeepers.”
