‘Iwobi has licence to thrill’

Super Eagles’ forward, Ahmed Musa has confessed that Nigeria had a bad game in Tuesday’s international friendly against Serbia, which it lost by 0-2. But he is adamant that the Super Eagles have learnt from the loss, reports africanfootball.com.

Despite beating Poland 1-0 on Friday, Gernot Rohr’s men succumbed to a 2-0 loss to Serbia on Tuesday in an international friendly at the Hive Stadium.A second half brace by Fulham striker, Aleksandar Mitrovic gave Serbia a deserved win over the West Africans.

“Yes, we lost and it wasn’t a good game but we will learn from the loss and improve on them in subsequent games,” Musa said. The Super Eagles looked out of sorts in every department and will be eager to redeem themselves when they take on the Democratic Republic of Congo at home on May 28.

Five days later, they will battle with the Three Lions of England at Wembley as they prepare for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.Meanwhile, Gernot Rohr has given Alex Iwobi the freedom to express himself in the Super Eagles, as long he plays for the collective good of the team.

The Arsenal player was guilty of some showboating in Nigeria’s 2-0 friendly loss to Serbia in London on Tuesday night, but he still received praise from Rohr.“With us all the time he’s very good, already in Poland and he was fantastic tonight [against Serbia],” Rohr told the Evening Standard.

“Perhaps, some times [he did] a little too much individually, he wanted to make a show. We prefer collective football. But when he can eliminate his opponent it’s very good. He’s with us all the time in confidence. He’s free when he has the ball.“I don’t know what the tactical options of Arsene Wenger are when he’s with Arsenal but with us he’s free offensively and he can show all his qualities.”
