Wikki Tourists winger, Richard Jonathan could not hold back his happiness after scoring the insurance goal that ensured his club ran out 2-0 winners against relegated Remo Stars in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match on Sunday.

Jonathan had scored in the first meeting between his team and Remo Stars at the Gateway Stadium, Sagamu when they lost 2-1. His goal in that fixture temporarily put score at 1-1 before Victor Mbaoma popped up with the winner from the spot late in that game.

This time, Jonathan had the last laugh. He came off the bench to replace Chinedu Onyelonu, who had scored the first goal of the game and struck the second goal for Wikki, right at the dead. It took Jonathan only four minutes to score after he came on in the 86th minute.

Jonathan got a pass on the right flank and then raced into the Remo Stars box before calmly placing a shot into the far right corner of goalkeeper Chizoba Ndukwe.

“I am happy to have scored against Remo Stars (over two legs). The game was a difficult game for us because they kept the ball most of the time from us. This is my first club and season in the top flight of Nigerian league and so far I have scored four goals and one in the Federation (Aiteo) Cup making it five goals all together.

“Before coming in, my coach told me to approach the goal with confidence which I did and it paid off. I played strictly to my coach’s instructions and I am elated to have put my name on the scoring sheet,” offered the player who graduated from Hearts of Oak Academy in Abuja.

Jonathan and his Wikki teammates still have to face Enyimba, Plateau United and Gombe United in their final three matches of this season.
