FUTO VC decries violence against girl-child, women

Worried by the increasing reported cases of all forms of dehumanising violence against the girl-child and women in the country, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. Chigozie Asiabaka, on Monday advised governments, organisations and families to eliminate such practices.

Asiabaka, who was represented by the Dean, Faculty of Biological Sciences and chairman of Deans in the institution, Prof. F. U. Osuala, stated this at the occasion marking the International Day for the elimination of violence against women, as declared by the United Nations (UN), but organised by the Institute of Women, Gender and Development Studies (WGDS) in FUTO.
 
The VC, who commended the Director of the Institute, Prof. Ihuoma Asiabaka, for the organising the event, noted that the school authorities as a policy do not promote any form of violence among all stakeholders within the community, regretting that violence against anyone debase human.
