For seven days, 5,000 women from different parts of Nigeria, and neighbouring countries, converged at Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, for the National Women Ministries Convention of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, to seek spiritual strength, divine guidance and empowerment from God.

The programme themed: “Revived For Service,” provided a platform for both spiritual revival and cross fertilisation of ideas on coping with 21st century challenges, which include, falling family values, upholding faith in cross-cultural marriage, domestic violence and other related issues.

The five-yearly event, held last in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in 2012, also offered participants opportunities to impact lives through evangelistic campaign and community service.

The General Conference Women’s Ministries Director, Heather-Dawn Small, in her keynote address, enjoined participants to take heart, as womenfolk face many challenges and storm in their daily sojourn. She assured them that they could do all things through Jesus Christ.

She said: “God has promised to be with us. No problem is too big for Him to solve. No situation you face, or will face, is too hard for Him to fix. Trust God and seek His wisdom and strength daily.

“Each woman at this event has been chosen by God and we have a purpose to fulfil here on earth. The questions we must ask ourselves are: am I living in the will of God for my life? And what does God want me to do for Him and for others? When you know the answer to these questions, and live according to them, then you will be fulfilling your purpose and destiny.”

In her welcome address, Director of Women’s Ministries Western Nigeria Union Conference, Mrs. Victoria Omodan, admonished her colleagues to stand fast in the knowledge that Christ has set them free, and not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

The President/Vice Chancellor, Babcock University, Prof. Ademola Tayo, said against the backdrop of the present day, Christians should be reminded that the End Time is nearer and people should be ready for the second coming of Christ.

He noted that despite obvious signs of the end that stare humanity in the face, many are growing faint and weary in their walk with God. “Fortunately, however, we have this opportunity to encourage one another not to faint, but remain committed and courageous in serving the Lord, knowing that the time of reward and refreshing is very near.”
