If we look at the manner most of Christ’s Disciples and Apostles died, as documented in history books, the preaching of the gospel of Christ will be rejected by the fainthearted.

Also, when we consider how John the Baptist was beheaded, how Stephen was stoned to death, and how Apostle Paul was imprisoned, then those not truly born again by heart will run away from spreading the gospel.

Having become aware that the people of darkness are, in most cases, viciously and ferociously antagonistic to the messengers of the gospel, many people would see this assignment as equated to a death sentence.

If we are to start from our Lord Jesus Christ – the manner by which an innocent man, who was merciful to all, was crucified, which was even witnessed by His disciples, mother and followers, was enough to discourage those, who VALUE THEIR LIVES from preaching the gospel in RISKY AREAS.

Risky areas, because they are not places that one could preach the word of God without facing fierce attacks.

For instance, there is a difference between preaching the gospel in Ikeja, Lagos State of Nigeria and taking the gospel to Sambisa Forest in Borno State. From a global illustration, it is much more risky to preach the gospel of Christ in Saudi Arabia than in the United States of America.

Therefore, those I earlier referred to as “Valuing their lives” will hesitate a great lot, when asked to go for missionary assignments in Saudi Arabia. Indeed, those concerned would want to prepare their WILL before embarking on such journey.

However, when it concerns taking the gospel to America, the number of willing missionaries will almost be uncountable.

Even when many Christians want to pretend as if the aforementioned assertions are not applicable to them, their hearts will think otherwise. Meanwhile, Christ envisaged this, when He made these statements:

• For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it (Matthew 16:25).

• And fear not them, which kill the body; but are not able to kill the soul; but rather fear him, which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell (Matthew 10”28).

• And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15).

Looking at the three Bible passages, it is evident that our earthly life is not relevant and not in consideration, when sent on missionaries.

In addition, there is no restriction as to the places to go to preach the gospel of Christ.

The truth of the matter is that, when we start to have preferential areas, it means we have not really accepted to die for the sake of the gospel, but have what I can refer to as – Perforated Christianity.

This is the one in which we boldly preach the word, but “I cannot afford to die now, since I still have many years ahead of me and I cannot work, only for others to come and reap it.”

Christianity and Persecutions

But can Christians ever run away from persecutions? The answer is NO. This is because gospel is light and the people of darkness will never accept the truth on a platter of gold, leaving the carriers of the gospel message to several attacks.

As a matter of fact, it should be something of joy for believers, when persecuted on the basis of truth and gospel propagation.

This, Christ made clear to us in Matthew 10:22 – And ye shall be hated of all men for my sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Remain permanently under God’s banner!
