The General Superintendent of Holy Spirit Mission Church (The Happy Family Chapel), Bishop Charles Ighele, has described the recent move by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) to limit the tenure of all general overseers to 20 years as baseless.

At a press conference in his office in Lagos, the GS said though the Federal Government had suspended the code of governance, he, however, urged those behind the draconian law to go on their knees and beg God for forgiveness.

According to him, the Senate should not only think of suspending the law, but should not visit it at all.“It is unthinkable for any person to make such a suggestion. Such an individual is looking for trouble, because if the men of God should join hands and call on Him to deal with such a man, he is finished. If we call on God that is the end of such a man. That is why I am calling on Jim Obazee and those pushing him to execute the law, to come out and tender serious apology,” he said.

He enjoined government to direct its energy to more pressing needs in the society and stop meddling in spiritual matters.“I stand to be corrected, but it is not fair. The government was trying to cause anarchy in the church of Christ. As Christians, we will respect constituted authority, but we will resist any law that contradicts that of God.

“We are not in support of those men of God, who exhibit financial recklessness and we know that God will surely judge those who dip their hands in church money and spend it as if it is their own. Those who eat offering and tithe with reckless abandon are thieves, but that does not mean that government should not know its boundary.

“Why can’t government make laws that an entrepreneur should hand over his/her business after 20 years,” he queried.
