Restitution is, as much as humanly possible, righting a wrong. It is clear evidence of the birth of new heart and a new spirit, a crossover from darkness to light, repudiation of all ungodliness and unrighteousness.

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye

Memory Verse: “… Zacchaeus stood, and said… Behold, Lord… half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything…
by false accusation, I restore… fourfold.” Luke 19:8.
Bible Passage: Luke 19:1-10

Introduction: Restitution is the act of restoring, repairing, replacing, and assuaging ill-feeling caused by a thief, cheat, or exploiter, all borne out of regret by the culprit. God actually commanded this. In this lesson, we shall study what restitution is and its blessings. The entire process starts from the heart; a determination to prevent a repeat of the wrong.

What?
Restitution is, as much as humanly possible, righting a wrong. It is clear evidence of the birth of new heart and a new spirit, a crossover from darkness to light, repudiation of all ungodliness and unrighteousness. The act is as important as the reason. Arguably, the motive might even be more important than the act or process. Sometimes, a complete restoration might not be quite possible and to compensate, the offender will have to replace with four or more of every unit lost, damaged or stolen. This is not so much a penalty as a sign of real penitence and regret.

Dispensations
The doctrine is not new. It is has been a ruling principle from the beginning of time. Moses taught it, Lev.6: 1-6, 24:21; Num.5: 6-8; Ex.22: 1-5. It was in full operation at the era of the kings and prophets, 2 Sam.12: 1-6; 2 Kgs. 8:1-6 – as well as the Church age, right from the time of Jesus Christ all the way to our own dispensation, Lk.19: 8-10; Philem. 1:7-12. In fact, we can describe it as stream flowing from the law of harvest active in everyday life.
The Blessing:

Restitution engenders:
• Favour from God, Lk.2: 52.
• Speedy answers to prayers, Lk.11: 9.
• Fearlessness, Ps.27: 1.
• Healing, Ps.107: 20.
• Anointing for exploits, Acts 10: 38.
• Hearing God from time to time.
• Protection, Ps.105: 15.
•Heavenly provision, Ps.132: 15-16.

Conclusion
Restitution makes your way right with man, while salvation makes your way right with God. The two laws complement each other. Therefore, prayerfully take steps to put right those things you have done wrong. Salvation will always lead to restitution. It goes beyond stopping the offensive act or omission or even compensation. It is an overwhelming wish that the offence had not taken place at all in the first place. We will be fully restored in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
