Everything does not end here on earth, there is a life hereafter called eternity. A driver wrote on his face Cap “Kpata kpata man goes.” Today, there is a great deviation from living a life with eternity in view. So many believers have abandoned the great commission and are pursuing mundane things of this world just like Gehazi, who pursued after the material possessions of Naaman, which his master, Elisha had rejected. Suddenly, it appears as if even Preachers of the Gospel have forgotten that the world is not our Home, but we are just passing through and that Heaven is the ultimate goal.

The Doctor’s clean health bill does not guarantee eternal life in Heaven. Rather, it is living a life here on earth with eternity in focus. Run the Heavenly race to obtain the imperishable crown. Discipline your body so as not to fulfil the sinful desires of the flesh. Put your body under subjection, so that you live a pleasing life unto God. Being a Christian does not mean you cannot be tempted, but you discipline your body, so that you don’t fulfil the desires of the flesh.

Are you living with a view of eternity? Are you living as though Christ could come today? Having a proper view of eternity will drastically affect how you live and also prepare you for it.

Peter encouraged the saints to be prepared to suffer by focusing on the nearness of “the end of all things.” Look at what he said in the beginning of chapter 4: “Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude (emphasis mine), because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin (1 Peter 4:1). Having a proper eschatology, a view of the end times, would also help you, as a believer with being prepared to suffer for Christ, knowing fully well that the end of all things is near.

I have no doubt, that one of the things that made Christ willing to suffer was a proper view of eternity. Christ always lived with the thought of the end in mind. In fact, throughout the gospels, Christ sought to prepare Peter and the rest of the disciples for sufferings that were coming through developing this view – eternity in focus. It is the same for us. One of the secrets to being able to suffer in a world, where we are pilgrims, is to live in view of the imminent return of Christ.

David prayed that God should help him to number his days and what it simply means is that he was praying that God should help him to live with eternity in view. Is that your prayer today? Life on earth is a temporary residence to be compared with eternity, life is extremely brief. You won’t be here long, so don’t get too attached. Don’t get rich by all means; it is not worth it at all. Live your life with eternity in perspective. Rick Warren said, “In order to keep from becoming too attached to this Earth, God allows us to feel a significant amount of discontent and dissatisfaction in life—longings that will never be fulfilled on this side of eternity…. You will not be in Heaven two seconds before you cry out, “Why did I place so much importance on things that were so temporary?”

Living eternity driven life is to spur one another on to love and good deeds. The Lord Jesus Christ does not want to leave anyone in doubt concerning what eternity is all about. He said quite emphatically that it is better for you to enter into life maimed, than having two hands and go to hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched.

Live a lifestyle that will take you to Heaven and not Hell. There is another world in view, called eternity. You can make a u-turn today, but you don’t need to delay because you don’t have this opportunity forever. Eternity is waiting for you.
