The hour you think not – Part 1
Mt. 24: 42-44 “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know that if the good man of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
Every genuine believer should know that the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is very close. That you have heard it before does not suggest He will not come again. What should be your paramount concern is to take steps to ensure your readiness for that great day. This is because of certainty it will surely happen notwithstanding whether you believe it or not. And from all indices, it is even at hand. If you are reading this message now and are ready to prepare for this coming event, then you will be among the few that will escape the wrath that is to come after His coming. Jn 13: 17 says, “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.”
As a believer, it is very important you are ready at all times for no one knows the hour when it will happen, for it may even be as you are reading this message. And because we don’t know the hour, what we ought to do is to obey the Scripture and be ready at all time, for this is the only way to true happiness at the end of this life.
The reason for this advice is because many believers are becoming more serious in taking care of their physical wellbeing than the spiritual and thus, they give all their time and attention doing everything possible to make it in this world. Of course, we know no one goes to heaven with anything of this world.
Lk 10: 39-42 states, “And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, ‘Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
In the context above, many things encumbered Martha, including what to eat and drink, and desired that Mary who was listening to the word of God should come and assist her to attend to the flesh. But Jesus made it very clear that one thing that was very needful was that which Mary has taken.
Beloved, there is one thing, which ought to be regarded first above all things by all believers and that is the care of our souls. If you are worried and running about for many things, I want to let you know that one thing is needful, which is where your soul shall be at the end of this life. This is what matters. The things you are running after cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven; neither will the flesh you are nourishing.
Psalm 27: 4 says, “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple”
As a believer, your desire for holiness and what nourishes the soul should be the utmost. If the seed of desire is planted on a good soil of God’s Word, it brings up good fruits that remain forever because heaven and earth will pass away, but no iota of God’s Word will fall apart until it is fulfilled. Flesh and blood cannot enter the Kingdom of God, no matter how it is nourished, no matter how beautiful, short or tall it may be or the colour of the skin; it cannot enter the Kingdom of God.
1Tim. 6: 7 says, “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.”
