Memory Verse:  “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,” 1 Thessalonians 5:23.

Bible Passage: John 17:13-23
Introduction: Sanctification is a process, where the deepest part of a person’s body, soul and spirit is made spotless. Sanctification is not optional, 1 Thess.4: 3. A deep intimate relationship with God is impossible without sanctification. We cannot really become vessels unto honour, fit for the Master’s use until we have been wholly sanctified, 2 Tim 2: 21.

It is unfortunate that sometimes a saved person does not want to go any further. He wants to remain on milk, when he should be on solid food. He is ruled by the human nature called the flesh and ignores the prompting of the Holy Spirit. His desire is for gratification, usually immediate and inordinate. Often, the Holy Spirit will just have to be content with wiping away our tears and comforting us.

A Sanctified Life
The Christian should have a passionate desire to be Christ-like in every sense and at all time. We should never stop asking ourselves: What would Christ have us do? Apostle Paul said in 1 Cor. 11:1, ‘Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ’, Jn.17: 19.  Sanctification is part of   Holiness, Heb 12:14. It involves the trinity, 1 Thess.5: 23-24, Eph.5: 26, 2 Thess.2: 13.

The believer can be sanctified through any of the following: (i) By the Word – Jn.17: 17. (ii) By the blood of Jesus, Heb.13: 12. (iii) Through a divine spiritual surgery –Ezek.36: 2 6, (IV) Voluntarily self-sacrifice, 2 Cor.7: 1.

The consequences of sanctification include, (i) Holiness, Eph 5: 26-27. (ii) Becoming a vessel unto honour fit for the Master’s use, 2 Tim.2: 21. (iii) Bearing good fruits with ease in every area of life, Rom.6: 22, Gal.5: 22-23. (iv) Attainment of perfection in Christ by grace, Heb.10: 14, Jn.15: 2. (v) Assurance of a good inheritance in Christ, Acts 26:18.

Are you willing to get rid of even the appearance of sin?
The Holy Spirit has been waiting for you. He wants to take you to a much higher level in the spiritual realm and is eager to deepen your walk with God, getting rid of every unprofitable habit and transforming your mind through Christ Jesus. So shall it be in the mighty name of Jesus.
