FOR two weeks in January, academic activities were suspended at the College of Medical Sciences of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), as students trooped to the Medical hostel football pitch to witness the maiden edition of ‘The Definition Tournament’ instituted by the Director of Sports, University of Medical Students Association (UBEMSA).

The event according to Anthony Adams served as platform to foster friendship, cool off academic stress and recruit students to represent the school at the next National Medical School games to be hosted by the University of Benin.

The 6-Aside football tournament, which included both male and female categories, saw the various levels in medical school represented, except the 100 level.

The game, which began with the female categories, was full of exciting moments. Four days into the tournament, 300 level and 400 level girls met at the final. The games ended 2:1 in favour of the 300 level girls.

In the male category, the boys were divided into two groups and the highest from each group met in the finals. The 400 level male class didn’t have a smooth ride, they did not make it to the semi-final against 600 level male class because of the unruly behaviour of one of their players, who threatened to beat up the referee.

The finals, which held on a Sunday afternoon was between 300 level and 600 level and ended 1:1. But through penalty kicks, the 300 level class won 3 goals to 1.

Declaring the 300 level winner, UNIBEN Coach, Mr. Onome John, commended the students for the show of sportsmanship.

He encouraged them to keep the level of preparation high as the build-up towards the Nigeria Medical Students Association (NiMSA) Games 2016.
