WITH eye on larger market share, visibility and customer satisfaction, Nigeria’s premier online supermarket, Gloo.ng, has kicked off a ‘100 per cent free same-day delivery promo’ for Lagosians. Gloo.ng, which is billed to roll-out in Abuja this quarter, is also giving new users up to 20 per cent discount off their fist purchase of any item.

The firm explained that it extended the 100 per cent same day delivery promo till September 30 because of the positive responses it got from its customers in Lagos. Gloo.ng now covers the whole of Lagos, except Badagry and Epe.

Speaking to journalists on the initiative, the Chief Executive Officer, Gloo.ng, Dr. Olumide Olusanya, explained that the inspiration for the 100 per cent free same-day delivery promotion that will run for six months came from a similar promo they ran for two weeks that ended with March.

“We had earlier projected that this should cause an addition five per cent to be added to the average 15 per cent month-on-month growth we normally expect. What it did was give us a 45 per cent month-on-month growth, which clearly demonstrated its value to our target market. And that level of monthly growth is especially valuable to us as well. Hence, we felt it appropriate to spread it around longer and to more people. The up-to-20 per cent discount is usually given to our new users as our own special way of appreciating them for trying out the service for the first time,” he stated.

Speaking on Gloo.ng’s market share amidst competition, Olusanya said the firm actually defined its core competitive space as the online supermarket space in Nigeria.

He claimed that Gloo.ng has become the biggest entity playing in that space and estimates they presently control about 50 per cent of that market. “Our plan is to quickly ramp that up to a 70 per cent share by the end of this year to expand our dominance of that space. We will be the gorilla in this space in the long run,” he stated.

Speaking on other incentives customers should expect, Olusanya said the firm has a referral program that allows its existing customers to refer the Gloo.ng service to their friends, family or colleagues by sharing their unique referral link. “Every Gloo.ng user has a unique referral link. Any new customer we get via an existing customer¹s unique referral link will qualify the referring customer to get up-to-20 per cent discount during her next purchase with us.

“Furthermore, the new customer that came in through her also gets same up-to-20 per cent discount with their first purchase. And if the newly won customer somehow shops three more times within two months of that first purchase, we give that new customer a free blender—or a N2, 000 coupon,” he stated.

Olusanya disclosed that the firm plans roll out in Abuja this second quarter and Port Harcourt in the last quarter of this year.
