ISPON mulls software standardisation, gets new president

EmadoyeAs part of efforts targeted at repositioning Nigeria’s software sub-Sector, the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON) is planning software standardization in the country.

ISPON, which is critical about local content development, stressed that it has become necessary to get Nigeria’s software ISO certified.

Speaking on Monday in Lagos, while getting the staff of office from the immediate Past President, Pius Okigbo Jr, the new man at the helms of affairs at ISPON, James Emadoye, said the target was to make indigenous software attractive globally.

Emadoye, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BSSL Technologies Ltd, said ISPON will strategize to become more relevant in the new Nigeria towards contributing to help reposition the economy on the right path by providing required solutions locally to combat unemployment, corruptions and development challenges.

Emadoye bemoaned the continuous acquisition of foreign products in Nigeria as an abnormal situation calling on the government of the day to change this tide immediately.

“Honestly our attraction to foreign product is a major hindrance to economic growth and progress of the nation. We are challenged as professionals in software development to enforce professionalism, improve the quality of our products and provide the highest standards that are obtainable anywhere in the world. The ISPON brand Software Nigeria shall be upgraded and shall be the main theme for the 2016-2018 presidential years”, he added.

The new National Executive Council of the Institute, apart from the president, consisted of the Managing Director, PFS, Yele Okeremi, who was elected 1st Vice President while former General Secretary, the CEO of Infographics Nigeria Ltd, Chinenye Mba-Uzoukwu, became 2nd Vice President.

The New General Secretary of the Institute is the General Manager, Application Services, ipNX, Titus Olowokere, while the Managing Director of FinTrak Software, Bimbo Abioye emerged Treasurer.

Furthermore, Emadoye said the Institute under him, would try as much as possible to pursue necessary policies and follow government up on the importance of developing the sector.
