The Information Technology Association of Nigeria (ITAN) has disclosed its readiness to halt the spate at which businesses are closing down permanently in Nigeria or relocating to other climes.

The newly elected national president of the association, Olutayo Adeniyi, said this at the inauguration of the new members of the board of ITAN at the weekend, in Lagos State.

“We are ready to ensure that this trend is halted without delay,” Olutayo stated.

Adeniyi noted that as part of measures to ensure the realisation of this objective, members must fully support its aspirations by prompt payment of membership dues, organising and attending events and programmes to promote members’ businesses locally and internationally; re-engineering and refocusing the web presence, upgrade its IT infrastructure and social network presence and networking members to promote their businesses and interests.

The new president also reiterated the association’s commitment to reviving its regional and state chapters. “It is my intention together with members of our new board to move our great association forward and take her to the enviable position in the global arena,” he said.

Adeniyi noted that the immediate past regime, led by Mrs. Florence Seriki, has done a fantastic work in the area of cooperation with other stake holders in our industry. “It is our wish to continue in that route to the best of our conviction and the good of all. We must quickly re-strategise to put you and your businesses in the front burner by promoting your interest at all levels (locally, nationally and globally) as we collaborate with other stakeholders, relevant government agencies at the state and federal level as well as at the World Information Technology Services Alliances (WITSA) level.”

He said it is a fact that Nigeria is going through recession just like many other nations of the world. “We must brace up for the dynamics of change to move our country out of the needless mess that we found ourselves and join good spirited Nigerians in reshaping the future of our nation,” he said.

Seriki, while giving a brief account of her tenure, disclosed that she met a tattered ITAN with no encouraging structure on ground. She said efforts were made to bring seasoned professionals to enrich the organisation in the area of idea contribution for effective growth. “The vision was to create an ITAN that will see to the emergence of strong member companies that will be competitive and able to sustain businesses and be financially stable.”

“With a strong ITAN, no company should be able to bid for any government contract if they are not members of the association,” she said.

Seriki congratulated the new president especially as a new and strong board is now in place to work with the executive to ensure that all the desired objective are achieved.
