GOVERNOR Babatunde Raji Fashola has fulfilled his promise of honouring Lagos State medalists at the 18th National Sports Festival, Eko 2012, with scholarships.

The awards cover from secondary school to tertiary institutions and the receipt of cheques has started since Monday, March 16, at the Lagos State Scholarship Board, Iyana Ipaja.

Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Mr. Wahid Oshodi, disclosed that the athletes who have collected their cheques from the board included four secondary school, 16 polytechnics/technical schools and 14 university students.

Oshodi noted that the award was in fulfillment of Fashola’s promise to the student-athletes during the cocktail dinner organised in their honour for making the state proud at the Eko 2012 Sports Festival.

He advised the students to face their education and combine it well with sports, while also trying to be good representatives of the state, which has been so generous to them.

He wished the athletes a bright future, urging them to always imbibe the qualities that would make them excel in leadership positions in the nearest future.
