A Group, Coalition of Imo Voters for Good Governance, has called on the electorate in Imo State to consider candidates’ competence and credibility over party affiliation or sentiment, while voting in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

This, according to the group, would ensure that mediocre candidates are not elected in place of those with prerequisite leadership qualities, and are genuinely committed to providing good governance and developmental services to the people.
The group’s Director General, Pastor Arthur Maduako, made the call while briefing newsmen, yesterday, in Owerri, on activities of the group, which, according to him, are tailored towards ensuring that “2023 polls are not only credible, but the best in the history of our country.”

Maduako, who is also the leader of Ideato Peoples Mandate, said: “Our motive is chiefly to help Imo electorate not to repeat the mistake of electing people who are not committed to the general well-being of the people, through constant sensitisation and mobilisation against all forms of election malpractices and violence.

“We are concerned about seeing that only candidates, who are people-oriented, credible, accessible, respectful to rule of law and equity, are elected in the coming elections.
“We also want to ensure equity in representative government in Imo. We want a system where power will be rotated among the political blocks to entrench equity and reduce unnecessary bickering among party candidates during election period.”

Also speaking, the Deputy Director General, Emmanuel Okpani, said the group aims to mobilise 200,000 people to serve as ambassadors that would help enthrone good governance and effective leadership in the state.

He said: “We plan to tour all nooks and crannies in the state to galvanise massive grassroots support for our vision and objectives, which are for the overall good of citizens.
“We believe that with our efforts and impact, the outcome of 2023 elections will be recorded as most credible and exceptional in history of the state.”
