The All Progressives Congress has accused the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of sponsoring 2023 campaign posters of some members of the ruling party to cause confusion.

“We are not engaging in any other activity about 2023 elections and wherever you see such (posters) you can be sure they are from mischief-makers,” APC spokesman Lanre Issa-Onilu, told journalists in Abuja.

“We know it is part of the strategy of the PDP to continue to take actions to cause distractions so that the governing party will not focus on anything that is important to the people of Nigeria.”
Posters with images of APC chiefs such as the national chairman Adams Oshiomhole, national leader Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai have been making the rounds. All the men are rumoured to eyeing President Muhammadu Buhari’s seat when his tenure ends in 2023.

Neither Tinubu, Oshiomhole, El-Rufai or his party, APC, have made any comments on a successor plan for President Buhari.

But Buhari in early August said he will not name a preferred successor to replace him in 2023.
He said anyone interested in the position should contest as he did in three previous elections.

“Succession, to me this is very funny,” Buhari said.

“Because if I did find anybody I will create more problems for him or her. Let those who want to be President try as much as I did.”

APC spokesman said the party’s major focus is to provide governance in the country for the next four years.

He urged members of the party to dissociate themselves and their leaders from rumours that have to do with 2023 elections.
