ICAN charges new leaders to prioritise members’ welfare

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has urged the newly sworn-in Chairman of Ilupeju/Gbagada and District Society (IGDS), Dr. Titilayo Fowokan, to ensure the professional growth of chartered accountants in the district society.

ICAN President, Haruna Yahaya gave the charge during Fowokan’s investiture, where he said the institute has been positioned as a global brand of repute that would explore technology and other viable means of education to ensure members remain at the forefront of emerging issues and trends in the profession.

Represented by ICAN IGDS District Coordinator Ezekiel Alaga, he urged the new executive to remain dedicated to the virtues that qualify them to lead the society and continue to uphold the highest level of integrity and accuracy.

Yahaya equally implored members of the district society to avail the new leadership of necessary cooperation and support both at the district and national levels.
Similarly, past ICAN president Comfort Eyitayo said the election was a clear testament to Fowokan’s dedication, leadership, and service to the profession.

She urged her to lead with vision and integrity, knowing that she carries the hope of many who look up to her.

Eyitayo, who was also the special guest of honour, also urged members to give their support, with the hope that they would build on a legacy of excellence that would position the district for greater relevance and impact within ICAN and the broader financial ecosystem.

In her remarks, elated Fowokan, who is the first female Chairman of the district society, said her emergence ushers in a new era of innovation and professional development under a business-driven framework ‘ACCELERATE’, which she said outlined her 10-point agenda.

According to her, the agenda blends ethical governance with forward-looking business principles of accountability and transparency; collaboration with internal and external partners; capacity building to enhance professional skill sets; empowerment of women and young professionals; leadership development; excellence in programming; recognition of achievements; advocacy for ICAN’s brand; technology for digital transformation and engagement to deepen members’ involvement.
