The new Executive Director of National Film and Video Censors Board, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, has challenged staff of the board in the South West Zone to think out new ways of generating revenue for the organisation. Thomas stated this when he paid a maiden visit to the Lagos office of the board.

In a statement from the Head, Corporate Affairs, South West Zone, Lagos, Mr. Ogbonna Onwumere, said Thomas was not happy with what he saw when he resumed duties at the head office in Abuja. He said that he was scared by the signals he received from the staff, stressing that he is not a Messiah. He said that the reception he received was an indirect signal about the enormity of the job at hand, noting that he was frightened by the enormity of the job at hand. But he charged staff to buckle up so as to move the board forward.

Thomas said he wanted a turnaround in the board in 90 days rather than the customary 100 days. The ED immediately directed that the two buses in the Lagos office, which have been abandoned for over 18 months, be immediately repaired. He told staff that he would suspend payment of outstanding vouchers he inherited till the financial position of the board improves, promising that once the financial situation improves, staff would equally benefit. He revealed that staff of the Zonal Office in Onitsha has been ejected from the rented office over a debt of N1.5 million.

He, therefore, advised staff to eschew tribalism and religious sentiments, but concentrate on their duties. He said he would introduce the Whistle Blower Policy in the board whereby a staff receives a certain percentage of any business he or she generates using their contacts. The ED charged staff on aggressive revenue drive but said it should not be a burden to stakeholders.
