Classically trained vocalist and artist Victoria Ajimah, known as Eleas Modelà had debut her first single, Jo ‘fun’ mi, which is set to introduce an entirely new genre—Classical Afro Pop.
A blend of Western classical music and contemporary Afropop, Classical Afro Pop is a genre pioneered by Eleas Modelà. Her debut track embodies this unique fusion—combining rich vocal technique and operatic elegance with vibrant African rhythms. Sung in both English and Yoruba, Jo ‘fun’ mi is a joyful, uplifting anthem with the subtitle “Time to Party”, aimed at encouraging listeners to embrace happiness and release everyday stress.
“It’s a vibrant song that says: forget your worries, move your body, and celebrate life,” Modelà said.
Jo ‘fun’ mi offers a message of hope and joy in the midst of economic challenges and social pressures facing many Nigerians. The song stands as a symbol of resilience, providing a soothing, family-friendly experience for listeners of all ages.
“Everyone is working hard, doing their best to care for their families. But life should also include joy, laughter, and rest. Jo ‘fun’ mi is my way of reminding us to breathe.”
Modelà is no newcomer to the world of music. With extensive training in blues, opera, Broadway, classical, sacred music, and highlife, her musical versatility is matched only by her academic depth. She brings an innovative approach to composition and performance, offering a sound that is both modern and deeply rooted in African tradition.
“Classical music and African sounds can exist in harmony. With Classical Afro Pop, we are creating a timeless, global sound that honors our heritage while pushing creative boundaries.”
Driven by a passion for music as a tool for healing, cultural expression, and identity, Eleas views her artistry as both mission and movement. She is determined to inspire a new generation of African musicians to master their roots while achieving global relevance.
In the coming months, she is expected to collaborate with top Nigerian artists including Davido, Olamide, Adekunle Gold, Mavin Records (Don Jazzy) and Patoranking. These partnerships are set to amplify the reach of Classical Afro Pop, bringing a fresh, genre-defying sound to wider audiences across the continent and beyond.
