Nasarawa State Chapter Inaugurates Reading Club In Lafia School
The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) is set to hold its 2023 International Convention. The convention begins Thursday, November 2 and will be on till Saturday, November 4, 2023. Venue is Chinua Achebe International Conference Centre, Mamman Vatsa Writers Village, Mpape, Abuja. It has as theme, A Nation in a State of Critical Ferment: The Writer as a Patriot.
Mabel Itohanosa Erioyunvwen Evwierhoma, a Nigerian academic, and Professor of Theatre Arts at the University of Abuja, will give the keynote. She specialises in dramatic theory, criticism, gender studies and cultural studies.
The major highlight of this year’s convention is the election of new officers of the association. Other side attractions include, Induction of fellows, commission of projects, panel discussions and convention drama and guided tour of Mamman Vatsa Writers Village.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Nasarawa State chapter of ANA, Dr. Chika Ose-Agbo, has restated commitment of the association in sustenance and promotion of reading and creative writing through various activities of the association for all ages and classes of writers.
She reaffirmed the position of ANA in the development of creative writers at the secondary school level while performing the official inauguration of the ANA Reading Club in Fortunate Secondary School, Millionaires Quarters, Lafia, recently.
Represented by the General Secretary of the association, Gladys Bulus, the chair charged the students to show more zest in their pursuit of academics even as they improve their creative dexterity through the discipline of reading and writing.
In his welcome remarks, the Principal of Fortunate Secondary School, Mr. John Angelou Odiba, who spoke on behalf of the management and staff expressed profound gratitude to ANA Nasarawa for choosing the school and for all the levels of encouragement and support her students have continued to receive from the association over time and assured that the school management will ensure that it continues to maintain quality delivery even in literature as it has established over the years.
