African stars storm Lagos for Access ART X 2022/23
The seventh edition of Africa’s renowned art fair, Access ART X Prize, is set to hold on November 4th to 6th, 2022, setting the stage for what is bound to be an exciting time in Lagos, as the crème de la crème of the art sector gathers in the nation’s commercial capital.
This year’s edition will be a hybrid event. While a physical event will be held at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, from November 4th to 6th, a showcase of the fair will be available online at artxlagos.com and Artsy from November 4th to the 21st, 2022.
The art fair, which was founded by Tokini Peterside-Schwebig in 2016, was established to promote and encourage the diversity of contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. The annual event has also grown to become a pillar of the African art market.
It has become a distinct cultural event that transcends the boundaries of conventional art fairs and features days of vibrant art experiences and events.
The event will bring together over 120 artists from 40 countries in Africa and the diaspora, presented by 31 renowned global galleries, with a repertoire of live exhibitions, discussions, and performances, including immersive digital art experiences that expand the frontiers of art in Africa.
A project of Access Corporation, the parent company of Africa’s financial services giant, Access Bank, the award returns this year with a broader scope, providing opportunities for early-career artists from Africa and the diaspora to refine their skills and position them for global success.
The top ten finalists of the award will be revealed on November 16, 2022, while finalists will be presented to the Jury on November 24, 2022.
Specifically, a Nigerian artist will be selected for a residency at Gasworks London in the United Kingdom, another artist from Africa and the diaspora will be chosen for a residency at Yinka Shonibare’s G.A.S Foundation in Lagos, Nigeria. They will get $10,000 in grants for their exhibition.
