As the fame of Nigerian pop music continues to grow, attention is being drawn to young artists taking the genre by storm. Akiriko is one of such.

With the release of his debut, Looseguard, he is ready to shine. Akiriko taps into the minimalist sound that entered music consciousness in 2014. The song is currently one of the trending songs on Nigerian pop scene at the moment.

Straddling an experimental instrumental by BeatbyBean, Akiriko sings about being in tune with a love interest and expresses his intent towards her in soft, oft-whispered, coos that match the tropical vibe of the song.

His lyrics are pithy and fresh as he syncs love, desire, and opulence into his smartly delivered verses that depict him as a certified loverboy.

BeatbyBean’s beat helps the singer map out his direction on the two-minute songs, pushing him into new territory with each second.

In the video for the single, Akiriko translates the fun and desire of Looseguard into an incandescent playhouse of desire featuring himself and his love interest that is pockmarked by lilting candles and dimly lit scenes that compliments the connection between the on-screen couple.

Born Adams Anataku, the singer was raised in the Egbeda area of Lagos where he soaked up the culture and lingo of Lagos as a young man. A trip to Enugu in 2006 set him on the path to making music as he marinated in the works of icons like 2Baba and Fela during that trip.

Looseguard is available for streaming on all music platforms.
