This past Sunday, the city of Lagos witnessed a groundbreaking celebration of African creativity and comic book artistry at Afroblot: The Experience, an immersive exhibition hosted at Krates, a creative hub and geek bar located in the heart of Lekki Phase 2. The event, organized by Nigerian comic book artist and visual storyteller Adedayo Erivic, brought together artists, fans, and enthusiasts to explore a fresh perspective on African storytelling through comics.
Held on April 19th, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Afroblot: The Experience offered attendees a unique opportunity to engage with Erivic’s bold new visual style—Afroblot, a comic book pattern and aesthetic developed to reshape the African comic book landscape. The event served as a visual and interactive extension of Afroblot: The Memoir, pushing the boundaries of comic book art while engaging attendees in conversations about identity, culture, and narrative innovation.
One of the highlights of the exhibition was the public unveiling of the first sequence of Erivic’s anticipated comic book, Jogunomi. The work was on full display, offering fans an early look into the story’s powerful themes and artistic direction. In addition to the visual showcase, the event featured a deep-dive exposition into the philosophy and creative process behind Afroblot. Through open discussions, participants examined the ways in which the Afroblot style could help define and influence the emerging identity of African comics on the global stage.
Guests also enjoyed a range of interactive experiences, including games, networking sessions, and a limited print signing session. Many attendees left with exclusive Afroblot posters signed by Erivic himself—souvenirs of an afternoon that successfully blended art, culture, and community.
“Afroblot: The Experience” not only highlighted Adedayo Erivic’s innovative approach to comic book creation but also reaffirmed the growing appetite for authentic African narratives told through bold, original formats. The event marks another step forward in positioning Lagos—and Africa at large—as a vibrant player in the global comic book industry.
