In a moment of national pride as Nigerian representatives and members of the Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers’ Association (NATCA) have been elected into three influential standing committees of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Association (IFATCA).
Leader of the Nigerian delegation to the 64th Annual Conference in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, who is the Executive Vice President of the IFATCA, Africa and Middle region and Director of Special Duties at the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Ahmad Abba, said the committees include the Constitution and Administration Committee (CAC), the Professional and Legal Committee (PLC) and the Technical and Operations Committee (TOC).
The IFATCA EVP affirmed that the triple-election not only reinforces Nigeria’s growing credibility in international aviation circles but also signals a renewed confidence in Nigerian professionals to contribute meaningfully to global regulatory and operational frameworks.
He said in addition to these roles, NATCA members also earned seats in critical task forces driving policy reforms and safety initiatives within IFATCA. Participants described it as a conference of milestones and regional unity under the guidance of Ahmad Abba, as the AFM region recorded historic milestones at the conference, including the admission of Chad and Congo Brazzaville into IFATCA, thus expanding the federation’s footprint in Central Africa.
The other was the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (Mou) between IFATCA and FACAA (Fédération des Associations des Contrôleurs Aériens de l’ASECNA) that represents a new chapter for regional technical collaboration.
The NAMA Director affirmed that the strategic achievements recorded by Nigeria at the conference resonate strongly with the five-point aviation agenda of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
