The Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO) has unveiled a new initiative to drive industrialisation in Nigeria’s rural and urban areas through the deployment of indigenous technologies developed at the Institute.

This was announced by the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of FIIRO, Dr. Jummai Adamu Tutuwa, during a two-day event for “industrial linkage technology extension to SMEs for rapid industrialisation of the national economy,” in the South-South Geopolitical Zone held at Agbor, Delta State.

Tutuwa, who was represented by the FIIRO South-South Zonal Coordinator, Dr Francis Ezebor, informed that the programme underscored the institute’s broader goal of fostering rapid industrialisation and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) growth across the nation through the transfer of indigenous technology.

She informed the 50 participants drawn from the six states in the South-South region that the overall objective of the programme is to expose the 250 commercialisable technologies developed at FIIRO to industrial stakeholders in the SME sub-sector.

She said this would be followed up with a practical hands-on demonstration of Fish Smoking Technology. which was chosen due to its low cost of investment, availability of raw materials, and the high demand for smoked fish in the market.

Tutuwa highlighted the potential for participants to harness these technologies for personal empowerment and national economic growth.

Tutuwa congratulated the participants on acquiring new business ideas, encouraging them to apply their knowledge immediately and pursue entrepreneurship.

She further urged the participants to remain in contact with FIIRO through its zonal offices, where they could receive ongoing guidance and support as they established and managed their ventures.
