Jongla joins race for soul of IM Market in Nigeria

Nigeria’s instant messaging space is set to receive a boost with, Jongla, a Finland application ready for launch next week, joining the likes WhatsApp, Viber and WeChat already competing for space in the market.

Jongla which started an ambitious project called Jongla Sound Candy in 2015, brings innovative sonic messaging; providing a fast, free and fun instant messaging service for all.

Riku Salminen, chief executive officer of Jongl said, the project, whose version 1.0 launched in May 2015, is a mix of creative, technological, and social advances that fulfil a number of constraints and goals.

He said, “It consumes less bandwidth and so can be used in places where the telecoms infrastructure is overcapacity, or limited and low-speed. It takes up less memory on your phone. It can communicate with all other IM systems and text messages so you can communicate with all your contacts using Jongla”.

According to the Founder, the application offers real-time, client-side audio processing on a wide array of devices, including inexpensive and older phones.

“Jongla brings a plug-and-play interface: no need for tweaking; has the ability to go above and beyond standard audio processing techniques to create subtly different, beautiful and exciting sound effects, and a rich visual world, from animated record players to wacky characters, that accompany the Sound Candies,” Salminen said.
