The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerdock, Maher Jarmakani, has stated that the Snake Island Port project is positioned to become a critical hub in Nigeria’s maritime logistics network, with three additional terminals planned to handle a wide range of cargo operations.
He reaffirmed Snake Island Port’s commitment to Nigeria’s trade and industrialisation goals through the expansion of its facilities.
According to Jarmakani, aside from the fully operational Nigerdock Multipurpose Terminal (NDMT), the flagship facility at the port, a second terminal, the Snake Island Container Terminal (SICT), is currently under construction.
He said that once completed, it is expected to significantly enhance Nigeria’s container-handling capacity.
Additionally, a third greenfield terminal has been designated for bulk cargo operations, aimed at supporting increased trade volumes and specialised cargo handling.
Speaking during a visit to the port facility by the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, Jarmakani said Snake Island Port has strengthened its position as a leader in port infrastructure development.
He highlighted the port’s role in promoting trade facilitation and serving as a catalyst for economic advancement in the region.
“This project aligns with the government’s vision to attract foreign direct investment into Nigeria. It establishes a one-stop shop that ensures compliance, world-class services, technology transfer, and investment in the future of our country,” he stated.
Jarmakani also commended the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for the 2024 agreement supporting the expansion and development of Snake Island Port.
“Our close working relationship with the Nigeria Customs Service and our strict adherence to regulatory guidelines create a seamless and efficient environment for international trade,” he added.
On his part, the Customs boss lauded Nigerdock’s contribution to national development, noting that the company remains at the forefront of delivering the full benefits of free zones and new port developments in Nigeria.
He said this also attracts foreign direct investment, creating jobs, transferring skills and technology, and generating revenue.
“I look forward to a future of collaboration and partnerships to achieve mutually beneficial objectives,” Adeniyi said.
