The operator of the port terminal at Onne Port in Rivers Stat, the West African Container Terminal (WACT), has stated that there may be an increase in tariffs for operations within the facility starting from April 1, 2025.
The operator explained that the relevant agencies have given assent to the terminal operator, owned by WACT, for an adjustment in Terminal handling Charges (THC) and storage fees. The adjustment includes an eight per cent increase the THC while storage charges will be increased by 100 per cent.
This was contained in a statement made available to the press, explaining that due to its tariff structure, in line with relevant regulatory approvals, there would be some adjustments in charges.
It read: “We wish to inform you that WACT has reviewed its tariff in line with the relevant regulatory approval to adjust both Terminal Handling Charges and Storage fees chargeable at the terminal.
“To this end, effective April 1, 2025, applicable THCs shall be duly adjusted by eight per cent and Storage by 100 per cent. The new rates shall be made available on our website on the said effective date,” the notice read in part.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause you; hence, the storage-free days have been adjusted from three free days to five free days,” it added.
The adjustment, WACT explained, would help improve commercial activities, flexibility, reliability, and ensure a safe and cost-effective approach for both its business and that of its customers.
“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation, enabling us to continue to deliver best-in-class service to you.”
