Bright Lemchi shines at Singapore Climate Summit

Leading Nigerian environmentalist, Bright Lemchi, has once again placed Nigeria on the global map with his groundbreaking contributions to environmental conservation and climate action.

A passionate conservationist and social innovator, Bright, the founder of Gowasteline Companies, emerged as 2nd place winner at the prestigious Action for Earth Global Leaders Summit (GLS) in Singapore, a competition that began with over 9,000 applicants worldwide.

In an intense selection journey which held via zoom meeting from November 1st 2021 – August 25th 2022, only 206 candidates advanced to the online phase. From there, 65 innovative projects were shortlisted, leading to 30 semi-finalists who were invited to Singapore.

Among them, Bright stood tall as the only African representative in the final six. Competing alongside exceptional leaders from Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Australia and Cambodia, Bright’s impact-driven initiative “Gowasteline” impressed judges with its practical approach to waste-to-wealth innovation, plastic recovery, youth empowerment, and community-based climate action.

His project not only tackled environmental degradation but also addressed poverty and unemployment across Nigerian communities.

Bright’s victory brought immense pride to Nigeria, earning him two international travel grants to Malaysia and Chile, alongside other global recognition perks.

His role as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hemispherefor Founder Pte further amplifies his voice in driving youth-led environmental solutions across the Global South.

While receiving the award, Bright had this to say, “This victory is not just a win for me or Nigeria, but a call to action for global partnerships that support grassroots climate heroes.

He added, “I’m excited to amplify my voice as Nigeria’s foremost environmental Ambassador and drive youth-led environmental solutions across the Global South.”

Through Gowasteline, Bright has trained over 13,000 young people, recovered 105+ tons of plastic waste, and created climate awareness in over 40 communities.

His Singapore victory affirms his vision. Africa’s solutions lie within its people. His journey is not just a win for Nigeria, but a clarion call for global partnerships that support grassroots climate heroes.
