CSR-in-Action partners NEITI to resolve conflict in extractive sector

A sustainability consulting and advocacy outfit, CSR-in-Action Advocacy, and its partners have scheduled to hold the 7th Sustainability in the Extractive Industries (SITEI) Conference and Exhibition, at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, Abuja, between May 21 and 22.

Partners include the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI); the Federal Ministries of Petroleum Resources, and Mines and Steel Development; Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC); Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN); and the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN).
  
Discussions at SITEI 2018, themed, “Managing Conflict and Security in the Extractive Industries,” will revolve around creating awareness on the causes, impact, and management of conflicts in Nigeria’s extractive sector, so as to maximise the potential inherent in the sector.

Discussions are also meant to inspire the government to develop, and implement strong legal and regulatory frameworks for conflict and security management in the oil and gas and mining sector.
  
Co-Founder and Convener of SITEI, Chief Executive of CSR-in-Action, Bekeme Masade, said this year’s event is geared towards identifying tactics that would bring about long-lasting solutions to conflicts in Nigeria’s extractive sector to avert further downward spiral of the sector and Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product.
   
Co-Convener and Chairman, SITEI Organising Committee, Meka Olowola, asserted that discourse on management of conflict and security in Nigeria’s extractive sector cannot be over-emphasised, as the sector is vital and instrumental to Nigeria’s overall development.
  
SITEI 2018 will be declared open by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, and closed by his Mines and Steel Development counterpart, Dr Kayode Fayemi.
