Bauchi approves N2b for fertiliser production

The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, said his government has approved N2b for the state-owned Fertiliser Blending Company, to produce for the 2023-farming season.

The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, said his government has approved N2b for the state-owned Fertiliser Blending Company, to produce for the 2023-farming season. 

 
Mohammed, who announced this while flagging off the sales of farm inputs in Azare, Katagum local council, said many farmers in the state have not embraced modernised farming. He ordered the Ministry of Agriculture to engage the services of agric extension workers to boost the knowledge base of the farmers.
 
The Governor said the roles of extension workers in the agriculture sector could not be over-emphasised. “The ministry of agriculture has been directed to deploy extension workers and other related officers.”
 
He informed the farmers to work with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) Seasonal Rain Prediction (SRP), which predicted the commencement of rain in the state to start by the end of May. He warned the farmers to avoid planting on erosion-prone areas to avoid losing their produce. 
 
“Our administration has settled all the outstanding debts by the Nigerian Suffering Investment Authority and we have committed N2b for the purchase of home-made materials to produce fertiliser for the years 2023/2024 farming seasons. 
 
“We have also committed some funds to the maintenance of the Fertiliser Blending Company to have seamless production. We are ready to serve our neighbouring states and other places and to create employment opportunities.”
