Lawmaker trains constituents on agribusiness in Abia
Nigerians have again been urged to embrace agriculture, especially due to the economic hardship that has continued to trail the COVID-19 disruption.
The House of Representatives member, representing Aba North/South Constituency, Abi State, Chief Chimaobi Obisike, who disclosed this during a weeklong skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training he facilitated for his constituency, expressed optimism that engaging in agribusiness is rewarding.
About 400 people, comprising farmers, graduates and other unemployed people were trained on aquaculture, horticulture, piggery, apiculture (Bee Keeping), poultry and mushroom farming.
The beneficiaries, who were selected across the Constituency, will be supported by the lawmaker to establish their own businesses, in order to be self-reliant.
“Having just witnessed various waves of the global pandemic with its attendant loss of jobs and the shut down of many small and medium scale businesses leading to economic crunch and drop in income of Nigerians, this is the right time to return to agriculture.”
Obisike said for him to ensure that both the indigenes and non-indigenes were carried along; he created a committee whose membership was selected from all the wards and town unions.
According to him, the measure was aimed at harmonising interests across all the groups in the Constituency with a view to foster inclusiveness in policy formulation and implementation.
