The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has launched a poultry empowerment scheme for women and youths in Osun State.
The scheme was launched at the Oba-Oke community in the Olorunda Local Government Area.
The Executive Secretary of NALDA, Mr Olusegun Adebayo, explained that the programme is a revolving poultry production model for participants to receive two poultry cages, 23 three-week-old birds, and four bags of feed.
“After an additional 3–4 weeks of care, designated off-takers will purchase the matured birds. Profits from the sales will be shared among the beneficiaries, NALDA, and the host communities, with the goal of reinvesting and expanding the programme to reach more Nigerians,” he stated.
He emphasised the importance of the initiative in promoting food security and supporting the president’s commitment to economic development.
“This is a social enterprise that, when nurtured properly, will generate continuous returns,” he said, urging beneficiaries to adhere to the terms of participation.
He also provided a brief history of the agency, which was originally established in 1992 and revitalized in 2020 under the Buhari administration.
NALDA said it has been involved in land development, processing, storage, and marketing through partnerships with both public and private sectors.
Highlighting NALDA’s nationwide reach, he noted that the agency coordinates stakeholders in crop production, livestock, poultry, fisheries, and agro-infrastructure to enhance Nigeria’s agricultural potential and competitiveness in exports.
The event drew community members, local officials, and partners who gathered to witness what NALDA described as a transformative step toward sustainable agriculture and economic empowerment.
