Bukola Bakare unveiled as new District 9111 Governor nominee

Rotarian Bukola Bakare has been unveiled as the District 9111 Governor nominee in a well-attended event in Abeokuta.

The unveiling took place at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta during the pioneer convention of Rotary Club and the unveiling of District Governor Designate of District 9111.

Meanwhile, Henry Akinyele has been elected District Governor to take over from the outgoing District Governor, Rotarian Dr. Oluwole Kukoyi, while Rotarian Bakare is in line to take over from Henry Akinyele at the end of his tenure.

The DG nominee, Bakare, who is the first female president of the Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA, Lagos State, expressed excitement about her elevation and the opportunity to further serve humanity.
Bakare said a lot still needs to be done when it comes to selfless services and making the country attain its enviable heights.

The outgoing DG, Kukoyi appreciated the club members for their support and cooperation,emphasising the need to keep making positive impacts in their various localities.

Rotarian Eric Kimani from Kenya, who represented the President of Rotary International, Stephanie Urchick, urged members of the club to keep pursuing initiatives and projects that will enhance world peace.

He tasked Rotarians on membership growth including being innovative and committed to attracting the youth into the club
Urchick also challenged them to double up on efforts of the club to kick out polio across the world.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, represented by his wife, Mrs. Bola Obasanjo, enjoined Nigerians to embrace selflessness in line with Rotary Club activities to make life meaningful to all.
While commending various initiatives of the Rotary Club targeted at uplifting humanity, Obasanjo said before anyone goes to bed daily there is need to do self-appraisal on how positive one has affected life.

Also, Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, in his keynote address, lauded the club for its various impactful projects and interventions.

Abiodun, represented by his deputy, NoimotSalako-Oyedele disclosed that some of the club’s impactful interventions in the state include Rotary Prostate Cancer Centre at Olabisi onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu and the Rotary Eye Centre at the General Hospital in Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Council among others.
