Africa is leading light of civilisation, says don

A university teacher, Prof. Godini Gabriel Darah has described Africa as the leading light of the world in education, science and technology, having been the origin of human civilization and development.

The professor of Oral Literature and Folklore who disclosed this at the 2nd annual lecture series of the Directorate of General Studies of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) said Africans have excelled in all walks of life to disprove the belief that they are lower humans and backward.

Prof. Darah, in his lecture titled, “Africa on a global scale: From genesis to revelation,” said the continent has been in the forefront of science and technology.He however pointed out that the region has the challenge of poor utilization of its great potentials,

The vice chancellor, Prof. Akii Ibhadode posited that it is imperative to dissect the journey of Africa from greatness to desolation and salvaging steps to redeem it from the point of precipice. He decried the global perception of Africa as backward in the midst of available potentials, great inventors and award winning scholars from the continent who have contributed greatly to global development.

Head, Directorate of General studies of the university, Dr. Chinelo Nwokolo said the academia has been saddled with the responsibility of moving from mere knowledge transfer to promoting artificial intelligence so as to diminish the fears of challenges through innovative thinking.She added that the need to proffer solution to society problems encouraged the initiation of the annual lecture series to add value to humanity, and called on public organisations and philanthropists to fund research that could benefit the society.
