Faced with the dearth of medical and healthcare facilities at the University of Nigeria College, Nsukka, a Medicine Alumni Association – North America (UNCOMAA-NA) has called for fundraising for the institution to secure the future of healthcare, creating a safe and conducive environment for learning.
The President of UNCOMAA-NA, Dr. (Mrs.) Anthea Nwandu, said she is campaigning to address the urgent needs faced by current medical students and to execute key projects in the alma mater to strengthen ties among a global network of alumni.
Nwandu, in a statement, stated that the mission of the group is to support the alma mater, empower current students and faculty, and foster a vibrant alumni network that will continue to uphold the institution’s noble motto, which is to restore the dignity of man.
“We are a distinguished group of medical professionals whose impact spans the globe, united by a shared heritage of excellence, resilience, and service.”
The president disclosed that this year’s campaign focuses on transformative initiatives, including the renovation and construction of student hostels and accommodations and procuring transportation buses.
She lamented daily commuting challenges between Enugu and the Ituku Ozalla teaching hospital, stating the need to upgrade medical wards and clinical facilities, support scholarships, and educational endowments.
“Through the generosity of our alumni and partners, we are building an environment that nurtures excellence and fosters innovation,” she said.
“UNCOMAA-NA has already made significant strides over the past year, including the successful renovation of Imoke hostel, expanding regional chapters, and establishing a robust digital platform to connect and celebrate alumni achievements.
Nwandu, therefore, called on all alumni, supporters, and corporate organisations to partner with the association “to achieve our goals and build a legacy that future generations of lions and lionesses will be proud of.”
