ANA takes reading campaign to secondary schools in Kebbi State


Moved by the poor performance of students in last year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Examination Council (NECO), the Kebbi State Association of Nigeria Authors (ANA) has commenced the reading awareness campaign across the schools in the 21 local government councils of the state.

The association chairman, Abubakar Kalgo disclosed that the programme is aimed at promoting reading culture among students.Kalgo who addressed participants at the reading and writing campaign held at the Umaru IIlalu model primary school, Birnin Kebbi said the campaign was to encourage reading and writing culture among youths who are the leaders of tomorrow.

” We need collective efforts to encourage reading and writing culture in addition to the exposure of students to the social media, the performance of the students these days is not encouraging and that is why there is mass failure in their examinations” he added.In his paper, Director of state library board, Alhaji Umar Kambaza, lamented the declining reading culture among our youths.

The executive secretary of State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), Alhaji Balarabe Abdulmumini, commended the association for embarking on the campaign.
